In 1939, the Wisconsin legislature created a new State Department of Public Welfare (see WIHV85-A488). The functions of the former State Pension Department (see WIHV87-A1001) and Public Welfare Department (see WIHV89-A85) were assigned to the Division of Public Assistance.
